My name is Erica Clarke and I am Mama to two amazing toddler girls who you will frequently hear me refer to as the “Tiny Clarkes” (#bestjobever). I am a working mom who enjoys travel, self-improvement, slow, quiet mornings and the beauty found in the small details of all things creative. At the core of it all, I LOVE being a mom’s mom.
Motherhood is a journey that, for all its joy and magic, can also bring you to a place where you feel you have more questions than answers. For me, my most pressing question in this season of my life is, “How can I be an exceptional, working mom (and wife) and also prioritize taking really great care of myself?” Yes, ladies. This is a place where you can use words like “self-care” WITHOUT the guilt. Prioritizing yourself does not mean your children are any less of a priority. The two are not mutually exclusive.
I am on a Jesus-assigned mission to equip and empower women with the resources and community needed to give our very best in motherhood while also making ourselves a priority. Together, we can change the conversation and influence a shift from a society that simply acknowledges the need for the healthy practice of self-care to one that celebrates it.
Join me on this journey of learning to make room for the things that help you to recharge and show up as your best self for yourself and those that you love. Give yourself PERMISSION to prioritize YOU.
Women are not lacking in “know how” or execution. We are lacking in grace. We just aren’t kind enough to ourselves. I refer to many of these posts as “Permission Slips” because I’d like to think that I am helping to free you from the guilt associated with self-care by assuring you that you do have permission to do those fun, relaxing, energy cleansing and refueling things.
Here, I hope to begin to build a community. A safe space for moms to be reassured that they are not alone in this. I will be transparent about things that excite me, things that challenge me and the everyday questions that my life as a working mom present. I will share about my own lessons learned (and still learning), encourage you to activate what God has already placed inside of you and challenge you to take an inventory of the thoughts, habits, behaviors and even people that may have become barriers to your embodiment of self-love. After all, self-care IS self-love, ya’ll.
I will hold you accountable for making rich deposits into yourself. Consider these “Permission Slips” as invitations and open letters, from my heart, addressed directly to the pieces of you that need to be reminded that YOU ARE A PRIORITY.
